In the middle of a Havana that is literally falling apart, an article published in the Basque press revealed that theOffice of the City Historianadvances in a project with the Basque Country that, in addition to a Plan for the Protection of the Industrial Heritage of the Bay of Havana and other works, could include the future construction of a suspension bridge in the Cuban capital?
This is what an article published inDeia which ensures that "with the main objective of facing the global challenges of the future such as the pressure that tourism exerts, climate change and energy efficiency in the field of rehabilitation",Havana “has made the decision to learn from technological development” for which some emblematic structures of Bizkaia have needed to promote the cultural and industrial heritage of the Cuban capital.
The initiative is the result of a collaboration of more than twenty years between the Technological Research and Development Center of Tecnalia and Cuba. They also have the support of the Basque Development Cooperation Agency of the Basque Government.
“The project to be carried out includes four specific actions at the industrial, training, rehabilitation and cultural levels,” according to the article, whichHe did not offer details about how the works will be financed, how much they will cost or where they will be built specifically.
“First of all, they have developed the so-calledPlan for the Protection of the Industrial Heritage of the Bay of Havana as a comprehensive management instrument with innovative tools specialized in the management and analysis of urban and territorial data," the text adds.
They have also launched a training plan to train more than fifty professionals on digitalization, adaptation to climate risks and environmental improvements in rehabilitation.
For it,Cuban specialists have carried out technical visits to spaces of recognized heritage and cultural interest in the Basque Country such as the Hanging Bridge, the Bilbao estuary or the Punta Begoña Galleries.
The plan also includes a rehabilitation plan for an industrial building for use as a Cultural Center in Havana.
Another phase of the project is the activation of “a cultural plan with three interpretation routes of the industrial heritage in the area around the Bay of Havana, focusing on naval history, the commercial port and industrial warehouses.”
“Once the construction is completed, it is a matter of time before the residents of Havana will have their own Suspension Bridge, its Bilbao estuary and its Punta Begoña Galleries through which they can walk”, concludes the articleDeia, perhaps ignorant of the serious construction deterioration of Havana, which has become a danger to its inhabitants, while the government continues to invest in facilities for tourism and dreaming of a suspension bridge.
