Businesses in Cuba without electronic payment will face fines, closures and confiscations

All businesses in Cuba are obliged to guarantee customers conditions for the use of national electronic payment gateways.

The Cuban government does not want cash circulating on the streets, so businesses without options to receive electronic payment will face fines, closures and confiscations.

The regime recalled in the official press that the nextFebruary 2, Candlemas Day, theResolution 93/2023 of the Ministry of Domestic Trade (Mincin).

The new rule requires all businesses in Cuba to have options enabled for customers to makeelectronic payments.

"It is established as a requirement for commercial establishments subject to registration in the Central Commercial Registry (RCC), to possess the facilities ofpayment through national gateways or point-of-sale terminals for the marketing of goods and services to the consumer," he indicatedGranma.

The official media acknowledged that "theelectronic payment It is an optional modality for the consumer." However, he warned that "for natural and legal persons who do not guarantee payment facilities, the RCC will proceed to suspend the activity, through thewithdrawal of the Commercial Certificate".

In addition, the authorities could impose fines, the closure of the establishment and if non-compliance with the measure is detected repeatedly, they plan to "apply the confiscation of the instruments, equipment, merchandise or effects that give rise to the contravention."

"Resolution 93 is directed at natural and legal persons who carry out commercial activities subject to registration in the Registry, and for those involved in wholesale trade, sales of merchandise, gastronomic and social food services, as well as commercial and technical services of use. personal and domestic", as specified by the government.

Only establishments located in silent zones are excluded, and they must have a certificate issued by the Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A. (Etecsa).

At the end of 2023 the government complained that theprivate businesses resist the banking process. Manuel Marrero warned entrepreneurs that "no one can refuse a client to pay them electronically."
