The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) of Cuba issued this Friday an Early Warning notice for severe storms expected for this weekend on the Caribbean island.
According toinformation, shared by the Civil Defense of Cuba in X, aextratropical low and cold front will cause a change in weather in the country for the next three days.
"Forecast models showed the formation of an extratropical low with an associated cold front over the northern portion of the Gulf of Mexico this weekend," which will rapidly deepen as it moves eastward approaching the Peninsula. Florida, details the information.
It indicates that since the end of the morning of Sunday, February 4, an extensive area of prefrontal cloudiness withshower activity, rains and thunderstorms will affect the western region.
This will extend in the afternoon and evening towards the central region and then towards the east. There is a possibility that severe local storms may be generated, says the Insmet meteorological report.
The cold front is expected to producesomewhat strong winds from the south, which will influence the western and central regions of the island.
The winds will extend to the eastern region of Cuba on Monday and could cause coastal flooding in low-lying areas of the west.
On Monday a new cold front will approach the western and central region of the island, accompanied by showers, rain and strong winds.
The Civil Defense maintains surveillance over these weather conditions, which usually leave dozens of landslides in the island's capital.
