High probability of rain and electric shocks with the entry of a cold front through western Cuba

The Cuban Meteorological Institute (INSMET) warned of the entry of a newcold front in the west of the country, which will bring associated a high probability ofrains andelectric shocks.

“With the advance of this system, showers, rains and electrical storms will occur, which can become strong and intense in some locations in the west. In areas of showers and rain, gusts of strong winds, hail and strong electrical activity may occur, as well as flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas,” INSMET warned.

This new cold front, associated with this extratropical low that will form this Friday between the northern portion of the Gulf of Mexico and the southern United States, will arrive from the afternoon-night of Saturday the 23rd to the western region of Cuba, according to the models of forecast.

“Ahead of this system, a band of prefrontal clouds will develop with strong activity of showers and thunderstorms, which will advance eastward over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and western Cuba from early morning and early in the morning. Saturday the 23rd,” the Institute stated.

This meteorological situation will move towards the central provinces, causing showers, rain and some thunderstorms, and will arrive more weakened in the eastern region on Sunday the 24th.

This Thursday will dawn partially cloudy in the western region and towns on the north coast of the rest of the country. According to himINSMET, maximum temperatures will be between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius in the west and center, up to 35 degrees Celsius in the east. Temperatures at night will be between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius.

At the end of February,Cuba experienced the coldest morning of the year, due to temperatures below 7 °C and 10 °C in several weather stations, associated with the passage of a cold front.
