After criticism from dozens of Cuban mothers for the delay in the distribution of milk for children, the Cuban regime assured this Friday that it is working to guarantee dairy, and recognized that in some provinces it has had to be replaced by syrup.
The Minister of Domestic Trade, Betsy Díaz Rodríguez, said that although it is true that children from 6 months to two years They have not received milk since last February 5, the regime is working with the available production and looking for alternatives with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), so that they incorporate their inventories into the basic basket.
"The country's livestock potential does not guarantee the supply of milk. Only Sancti Spíritus, Villa Clara and Camagüey guarantee the consumption of fresh milk in their territories," he said. He explained that in provinces like Las Tunas there are two municipalities where they only deliver half a liter of milk daily and others where half a liter is distributed every two days.
He stressed that work is currently being done on the dairy potential of each municipality, but in some there is no inventory and the dairy must be transported from distant areas.
Currently, the regime delivers milk to 73,070 children incorporated into the warehouses.
However, in provinces such as Ciego de Ávila, Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba, children have received syrup for milk, which caused alarm among mothers, commented the minister.
According to Díaz Velázquez, on February 25, the milk of children from 0 to 6 months will be covered until March 5.
For his part, he said that the available milk powder is limited, so those from 0 to 2 years old will be guaranteed 10 days and those from 2 to 6 years old will be covered only five days, equivalent to half a kilogram of the product.
"Children with chronic diseases will have only 50 percent of guaranteed milk consumption," said the official.
Regarding MSMEs and the question of why do they have milk?, he said that These private businesses import the product and sell it at their prices, while the state gives it to all children subsidized..
"Today we have talked with the MSMEs so that they add milk to the basket, but we have to pay for it at the cost that they have established," he stressed.
On social networks, dozens of women have complained about the scarcity with videos of crying children desperate and asking for milk.
"Mothers, please let us do justice with this milk situation, many know that many children will stop drinking milk, please, something must be done, we cannot sit idly by, we have to fight for the right of our children," they said in Facebook.
