Cuban nun Nadieska Almeida: "How can we applaud and then complain that we have nothing?"

"How can we live with our conscience applauding triumphalist speeches knowing that they are not true? Falsehoods are shouted and the same decadent promises are heard. They lie to us, we applaud and we lie."

The Superior of the Daughters of Charity in Cuba, Sister Nadieska Almeida Miguel, sent a message to Cubans who, in the midst of the hardships in which they live, are not able to take advantage of a moment of closeness with the leaders and denounce their situation; on the contrary, they are full of applause and praise for them.

The Cuban nun questioned the attitude of some compatriots who They applaud the triumphalist speeches of the regime knowing that they are false, and then complain that they have nothing and criticize the same thing that they applauded before.

The nun referred - without expressly mentioning - to three women from Río Cauto, in Granma, who during a recent visit by Miguel Díaz-Canel to that territory They were excited and euphoric to be close to the ruler.

"I have painfully watched two videos that have made me think about how easy we are to manipulate, or how we lie so as not to look for problems"Almeida said.

"What is disconcerting, as always, is the lie, the repetition of slogans that we learned and that continue to be shouted when it is appropriate to express that everything is fine, that goals continue to be met. FALSES are shouted and the same decadent promises are heard. They lie to us, we applaud and we lie," he criticized.

The Daughter of Charity wondered how it is that People lose the possibility of telling their rulers all the problems they have., the shortage of food, medicine, blackouts and high prices.

"¿Why don't we tell them that our children don't have breakfast? and that mothers are deciding between food and school? (...) Why don't we tell them that there are no medications, that there are expired batches of Duralgina and they intend to inject them into the sick? Why don't we tell them that there is no flour for daily bread...", he asked.

"Why don't we take advantage of these opportunities to tell them that the salary is not enough to live with dignity? Why don't we introduce them to so many older adults who have been left alone because their family has been forced to emigrate looking for a better future for their children? Why don't we talk to them about the endless hours of blackouts in which it becomes almost impossible to rest to start the new day the next day, in which the little food that can be bought is spoiled?" he explained.

"How can we live with our conscience applauding triumphalist speeches knowing that they are not true, that they lie to us? "How can we applaud and then complain that we have nothing?" he stressed.

Sister Nadieska recalled that we are in the season of Lent, in which Catholics intensify their deep relationship with God, become aware of their way of living and try to realize ways to be better every day.

"Although we may not all know what Lent is, we do know how to differentiate between the truth and the lie, the good and the bad, the just and the unjust. It hurts me a lot that we are not able to choose the truth with all its consequences, especially because what we continue to leave to the young generations is falsehood, a life of lies, duplicity, and they, like us, will get used to the wrong thing, they will say yes when the heart or reason says no." , lament.

"Lent gives us once again the opportunity to look within ourselves again, to seek the truth and decide if we want to live it. It directs us towards the light. Are we willing to bravely follow the path with all its consequences?" , he added.

This Cuban nun, known for her criticism of the regime, stated last September that The Cuban people are tired of speeches and promises.

"I invite you," he said to those in positions of authority, "to stop looking at your own interests and turn your gaze to this people who are tired of speeches and promises, who are already tired of suffering so much. It is time to stop aside so much selfishness, so much deception".

On September 8, in a message dedicated to the Virgin of Charity of Cobre, he described his pain for the suffering of Cubans, and asked his Patron Saint to give them courage to fight for what they deserve.

"I want a free people. I want a government in dialogue. I want inclusion in this Cuba house. I want possibilities for everyone. (...) I want to listen to young people with options within this beautiful island. I want the elderly to be accompanied and without hunger , with access to medicines and without worries to survive, but with encouragement to live. I want families who sit at the table to eat with dignity what they have earned with their own efforts," he expressed.

"To Ella, so close to her feast, once again I ask: Give us freedom, give us the courage we need to fight for what we deserve. Give us, María, the fidelity to the truth that we need to no longer keep silent about so much injustice, give us the love for the homeland of our heroes so that our Cuban conscience is not extinguished, but that we together seek liberating paths for all," she added.
