In the midst of the era of technology, where advances in science and technology also accompany sports, in Guantánamo, the directors of the Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) boasted about the construction of a gym and a park wood in the territory.
“This morning the gym and rustic park in the community under transformation 21 Caballería was completed,” wrote the Facebook userLaritza Cabrera along with the phrases "let's go for more" and "let's go with everything", typical slogans of the Cuban government.
Although the scope of his publication was not of great impact and the comments of his followers are supportive of the idea, the images show a place totally far from modernity, with all its elements built of wood and exposed to the open air.
Most gyms in Cuba do not have the necessary equipment to provide optimal service to the population, and their conditions are very basic for those who practice physical exercise.
Given the lack of infrastructure on the part of the Cuban State, many of these initiatives become more relevant thanks to private entrepreneurs.
Andvideo of the content creator identified inTikTok as “Cuban Matrioshka” showed, a few months ago,the interior of a gym in Santa Clara with most of its rustic manufacturing equipment.
The video shows that, in the opinion of theyoutuber, is the best equipped gym in the city, with a monthly fee of 600 Cuban pesos, approximately a quarter of the minimum wage on the island (2,100 CUP).
Elliptical trainers, like those used in the outdoor gyms that have been located in Cuban parks, rusty iron dumbbells and old fans make up the implements of the place.
The center also contains a second floor with bicycles and climbers and has a roof of steel sheets that turn the place into a sauna.
Lili Lastres considers herself a fitness girl, but maintaining that condition in Cuba is almost impossible due to the lack of basic and other types of nutrition that the country suffers.
