Triple rider Lázaro Martínez upset after being left out of the car delivery in Cuba

The athlete says he feels "disappointed."

Lázaro Martínez was champion of the Indoor World Championships in Belgrade 2022 and silver at the World Championships in Budapest 2023, as well as gold at the Pan American Games in Chile, also in 2023.

Lázaro Martínez is the main figure of his specialty in Cuban athletics and is currently preparing to defend his indoor title in Glasgow, in an event scheduled to begin on March 1.

In the comments section of his Facebook post, dozens of fans and those close to the athlete expressed their agreement with him and were outraged at the sports authorities.

Some suggested that he remain focused on sports despite the injustice and others clearly pointed out that it is because of events like this that leaks in Cuban sports grow unstoppably.

“I support Lázaro and for me too, because they did not take us into account even though last year we had relevant results. We give everything in exchange for nothing. It is not possible, being a top-level athlete, to have to catch a bus. I'm wasting my money on cars. When I ride the bus, people are amazed and look at me, as if thinking, it's not possible. It's not fair," Napoles pointed out to the aforementioned media.

The Cuban government, through the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), delivered cars to athletes and coaches on the Island, in recognition of their work and their “commitment to the homeland.”

Although the official pressdid not specify the number of vehicles delivered, they revealed the names of 18 of the recognized people, including active athletes, retired athletes and coaches.

According to the note published by the digital newspaper JIT, the delivery took place in outdoor areas of the Coliseum of the Sports City of Havana, where the glories of sport Mercedes Calderón (volleyball), Luis Giraldo Casanova and Pedro Medina (baseball) were stimulated. and Sibelis Veranes (judo), among others.

Some active athletes were also awarded, such as the wrestlers Gabriel Rosillo and Oscar Pino, along with the canoeist Yarisleidys Cirilo.

Coaches of Olympic and world medalists such as Rolando Acebal (boxing) and Daniel Osorio (athletics) were part of the group, as was the protagonist of several Guinness records for ball control in water, Jhoen Lefont.

The list of recognized figures included Rafael Guerra (sports shooting), Luis Esteban Fuentes (para-athletics), Juan Caballero (wrestling), Gisell Gonzalez (fencing), Eusebio Lopez (Basque ball), Luis Bueno (para-athletics), Guillermo Perez (para-athletics), Andy Granda (judo) and Alain Roman (softball).

less than five months agoINDER delivered another 17 new cars to sports glories, athletes and coaches of the island, in an official event held at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum.

Among those who received cars on that occasion were: world bronze medalist Marielena Jiménez Pérez, basketball glory; Paralympic champion Ana Ibis Jiménez Pérez; coaches Benito P. Enríquez Gómez, fencing, and Juan Arturo Molina González, wrestling.

In addition, the sporting glories Germán Mesa Fresneda (baseball); Yordanis Arencibia Green (judo); Rodolfo Falcon Cabrera (swimming); Vincent The Smooth Guard (candles); Joseph A. Cesar Thin (athletics); and Jesus Sollet Tomasén (boxing), among others.

The delivery of the vehicles occurs at a time marked by the massive exodus of athletes, which has been increasing in the last two years.
