The sister ofAlain García Pérez, a 45-year-old Cuban who was found dead in his home on Sunday in Louisville, Kentucky, asks for the maximum sentence for the person responsible for the crime.
So far the main suspect in the murder is Liobys Caro-Mena, another Cuban who arrived almost a year and a half ago in the United States crossing borders and whom the victim had given accommodation in his house.
“Let them give him the maximum sentence, if it really exists, let them give him the maximum sentence,” he said in statements toTelemundo 51 Edith García, sister of the victim.
The woman is deeply shocked by what happened because He does not understand why Caro-Mena, whom his brother knew from the neighborhood where they lived, in Alamar, Havana, ended up murdering the person who had helped him.
“I try to understand why he did that to me […] I can't describe to you what my brother was like. "My brother was the kindest, kindest being on the face of the earth," García said.
“And he even got him a job, but the boy didn't want to work and look what he did to him," added the woman, visibly shocked by the tragedy.
Liobys Caro-Mena was arrested Monday in northwest Miami-Dade after being involved in a chase that ended in a spectacular multiple traffic accident. The man was driving the victim's red Chevrolet Camaro.
During his escape, the Cuban first collided with a car, but continued driving. He then lost control near the intersection of Northwest 119th Street, collided with another car and overturned.
Caro-Mena, 38, was wanted by Kentucky authorities for the discovery on Sunday in the Iroquois neighborhood, in Louisville, of the body of Alain García Pérez, who died from injuries due to blunt force trauma.
At the moment, in Florida the Cuban faces charges of serious crimes of car theft, fleeing and eluding the police and leaving the scene of the accident without suffering serious bodily injury. Police also cited him for reckless driving and driving without a license.
He is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) Correctional Facility on $30,000 bail.
On March 15, Liobys Caro-Mena will have a hearing to be extradited to Kentucky.
Meanwhile, Edith García expressed her hope that the mother of the deceased Cuban, who is 83 years old, can travel to the United States through a humanitarian visa so that she can repatriate the victim's mortal remains.
