Andman who barricaded himself in a mobile home he rented in a Hialeah neighborhood, kept the community in tension for nearly eight agonizing hours last Friday, and was finally arrested by the authorities.

Identified asJordan Kozyak, 46 years old and apparently with mental disorders, the man entered a home in the early morning hours located in the area of 17th Street and Sixth Avenue in West Hialeah, whoseowners rented him a mobile home next to the place.

According to a report fromThe New Herald, Kozyak would have made that decision after having a discussion with the owners over the payment of the trailer rent.

Around 2 a.m. On Friday, police received a call alerting them to a burglary in progress at the residence, where Kozyak was attempting to enter through the attic. Later, upon realizing that it was not a stranger, the owners warned the emergency service that it was not a robbery, but that the man had barricaded himself in the mobile home.

Cristian González, one of the residents of the house, declared toTelemundo51 that Kozyak entered the property through the attic and after they managed to kick him out, he made a threat and pulled out a gun.

“He entered through the attic... he took out a circular electric light bulb... he tried to break it as if to access the house... he justified himself by saying that he was checking the internet because he had lost internet,” González said. “We managed to throw him out and (…) then he almost made a small threat, but he made a threat, and that's when he took out the gun in the garage.”

Lisa Rans, owner of the residence where the incident occurred, said Kozyak “suffers from schizophrenia and with all the pressure of the new law that people can't live there…[in trailers] it seems like it was the pressure.”

Kozyak took cover in the mobile home, so the special tactics team had to intervene. In this regard, the police explained that the operation was necessary as a precaution, since it was known that the man could be armed.

“This is a sign of what we have been talking about... that these trailers and mobile homes are a danger to everyone, police, firefighters and residents... where this person lived is a pain,” warned José Torres, of the Police Department. from Hialeah.

During the negotiation of the man's peaceful departure, residents of the neighborhood had to be evacuated.

The neighborhood was in suspense until late in the day, when police officers took the man out in handcuffs, after which he received immediate medical attention.

Kozyak faces charges under the law forattempted robbery of occupied dwelling andaggravated assault by use of a firearm. However,The authorities have not found the weapon which, according to the owners of the home, their tenant had.

In January,The city of Hialeah approved a zoning ordinance that restricts the number of trailers and boats that can be had in a home, for security reasons.

HeUsing recreational vehicles to rent as homes in residential areas is illegal in Hialeah and is affecting the urban order in the “City that Progresses.”
