The First Secretary of the Communist Party in Santiago de Cuba, Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, promised to deliver three pounds of rice and four pounds of sugar to the population of his territory.
The "food promise" It comes after protests by Santiago residents this Sunday, when they took to the streets peacefully to denounce hunger and make clear their disagreement with the abusive blackouts.
"They were dissatisfied with the electricity supply and the distribution of food, such as milk for children. The basic food basket and three pounds of rice and four pounds of sugar that have been agreed upon are already in partial distribution. There is a large mobilization of leaders in order to respond," said Johnson Urrutia.
She assured that "this food is being delivered now because it is now that we have these resources," emphasized the PCC leader in Santiago.
The cries of the population to the authorities on Sunday were very clear: "We are hungry", "Homeland and Life", "We do not want teeth." The immediate reaction of the regime was to send a food truck to calm the desperation of the popular masses.
The protest occurred in areas surrounding the PCC executive directorate in district 3 Antonio Maceo Grajales on Carretera del Morro. From an official profile they assure that the delivery of food began at the same place as the demonstration.
"The actions began immediately with the distribution of some food products, the same people and families present perceived it in the place itself. Actions that were being carried out since the early hours of Sunday itself," said user Aris Arias Batalla on Facebook.
The people of Santiago shouted "liar" to the communist leader and questioned her words and those of the government of Miguel Diaz-Canel.
The Cuban population does not agree to continue suffering from blackouts and hunger. Three pounds of rice and four of sugar will not change this harsh reality that they suffer day after day. The measure is just one more patch that the regime applies, to stop the inevitable.
