Father and son arrested in Santiago de Cuba a week after the 17M protests

These arrests are part of the regime's repression against those who raised their voices on March 17.

The arrest of a young Cuban for his participation in themassive protests that occurred on Sunday, March 17 in the city of Santiago de Cuba, ended with the imprisonment, also, of his father.

According to the independent journalistYosmany Mayeta Labrada, the 18 year old young man,Cristian Kindelán, was arrested last Saturday, March 23, for his alleged participation in the protests that began on Carretera del Morro, in the capital of Santiago.

When he was taken from his house, the police took him, first to the second Police Unit known as “El Palacete”, but a while later he was transferred to the State Security Operations Center in the Versalles neighborhood, the police said. reporter on his Facebook profile.

The young man's family traveled to the place -says Mayeta Labrada-, and his father,Asdrúbal Kindelán Garbey, after witnessing the injustice being committed with his son, began to make a live broadcast on Facebook.

“Shortly after the direct investigation was carried out and the relatives were still stationed outside ‘Operaciones’, the father was also unjustly detained and locked up in the same prison,” he revealed.

The journalist assured that his intention was to make visible the arbitrary arrest of these two people, despite the fact that the mother and grandmother, Teresa Garbey, denounced the arrest, but also, "she stated that she was from 'Patria o Muerte', thinking that this would free their families immediately.”

The protests last Sunday, March 17, began on the central avenue of Carretera del Morro and 9th Street in Veguita de Galo, in the capital of the province of the same name and spread to other territories of the country.

Hundreds of people came out to protest shouting “Homeland and Life”, “current and food”, “Down with Communism”.

The next day, the regime used its usual repressive actions and violation of human rights, afterconfirm arbitrary arrests of participants in these peaceful demonstrations.

Cubalex, a non-governmental organization that promotes human rights, denounced reports of violent arrests to repress protesters, and also of people who are forcibly disappeared.
