Manuel Marrero on the current situation in Cuba: "The fight is tough"

He asked political leaders to move forward "with their heads held high."

The Cuban Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, said that the current situation in Cuba is complex and assured that for the leaders "the fight is tough."

At the meeting of Minister council This Monday, Marrero insisted that political leaders must "be at the side of the people in the search for solutions," because the government's problems "have been accumulating."

"The fight is hard and to throw him out you need to go at a firm pace, with your head held high," said Marrero. He noted that it is necessary to "prioritize the solution of the problems and improve the conditions of the population."

The political leadership plans to continue with the Government Projections, that is, with the plan to "identify distortions" and negative trends in the country.

"If we do not start with identify the things we have wrong, the things that work badly and we look for a solution, we will stop, we will not move forward, and we will continue doing a little more of the same," he said.

At the meeting, the Cuban ministers discussed various topics. One of the most important is the fuel crisis. On March 1st there was an increase in retail prices in CUP and in foreign currency.

The government said that the expected impact has not been achieved with this measure and fuel values for wholesale sales have increased. It generates population transportation problems, both in the state and private sectors and in the electricity service, causing blackouts in the country.

The state sector in Cuba has failed to comply with its agricultural production plans, it reached only 89% of what was planned in tourism, it has low returns in the Sugar Industry and non-payment to workers grows in various sectors of the economy.

However, Marrero insists that the problem is not the socialist government, nor its policies, nor its inability to manage, but rather the "lack of solutions in the town"to transform current reality.
