Sale of pork in Cuba: the whole piece... or nothing!

It is no longer just the very high price of the product, customers have to clash with the whims and absurd demands of the sellers.

A Cuban denounced what happened to him when he wanted to buy pork in Havana and had to go home empty-handed, and not precisely because of the price.

In times when putting some protein on the table is a true luxury, it turns out that the problem is no longer just the very high cost of the product. The population also has to clash with the whims and absurd demands of the sellers, who prefer that their meat spoil rather than meet the needs of their customers.

This is what happened to Manuel Viera, who went last week to several agricultural markets and other sales outlets in the Playa municipality, where a pound of pork (leg and shoulder) was 650 pesos.

Viera wanted to buy a piece of five or six pounds, but no merchant wanted to send it to him, because they only sold the complete pieces and the smallest one weighed 14 pounds.

"I left without buying and in all cases they were left there without selling, bored and surrounded only by a hundred flies. I appreciate any logical explanation in this regard!" he asked in his Facebook.

Cubans are finding it increasingly difficult to access basic foods, not only due to scarcity and high prices, but also due to the selfishness and lack of empathy of many of those involved in the marketing chain.

This is what recently happened to a mother from Bayamo who experienced a true odyssey to buy a bag of powdered milk for his one-year-old son, and despite his efforts he did not succeed.

After a long line at the bank to withdraw money, he went to a MSME located on Martí Street where there were 900 gram bags of milk for 2,250 pesos. But when he tried to pay with 10 bills that he had been given at the bank, the seller told him that he did not accept small bills.

She asked him to wait for her, that she would go change the money. He achieved his goal, but when he returned, the man had already sold the milk.

When she arrived at work, her colleagues confirmed that MSMEs only accept large bills and that some even sell over a certain amount.

What do you think?
