Cuban mercenaries pay tribute to those who fell in the Ukrainian war

Cuban mercenaries publish video remembering their compatriots who fell in the invasion of Ukraine.

The images show two Cuban mercenaries fully equipped for war utter a few short words of tribute shortly before firing into the air.

“This is for our loved ones, the Cubans”, one of them is heard saying in the video.

“This is a tribute that we are paying to our fallen brothers. “We want to demonstrate how we Cubans say goodbye to men, we say goodbye to men.”says the other.

And he added below: "Hurrah! They will not pass, may God have them in Glory.”, while the other asked his companions who are still alive to take care of themselves.

The exact number of Cuban mercenaries participating in the war in Ukraine is not clear.

It is believed that between 400 and 3,000 Cubans have joined Vladimir Putin's army as mercenaries, according to media estimates. America Camel.

In mid-March, the Ukrainian government denounced at a press conference held in kyiv the growing presence of Cuban soldiers in the war.

"We see photographs, videos from the Russian side where many mercenaries from Cuba are seen," said then the press chief of the Ukrainian Committee for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Petro Yatsenko.

In that occasion The official reproached the Cuban government for its tolerance towards the recruitment of people from the island by Russia, despite reports that many travel deceived and have died on the front.

"We cannot affirm that it is a (Cuban) state program, but we know that no one (in Cuba) opposes it," he declared; and criticized that "Russian agitators" work without restrictions in Cuba.

Present at that same press conference were eight prisoners of war from Cuba, Nepal, Somalia and Sierra Leone captured by Ukrainian troops while fighting with Russian forces.

The Cuban, a teacher and 35-year-old musician from Guantánamo named Darío Jarrosay, said he arrived in Russia with a promise of work in construction. He explained that he saw the proposal on Facebook and applied, but when he arrived in Moscow he was dragged to fight with the Russian Army on the front.

This Cuban Geography teacher and musician is now waiting for a solution to his case as a prisoner of war in Ukraine.

The other prisoners of war reported having been victims of similar deceptions to be recruited by the Russian Army.

In recent months Some Cubans have said they left for Russia deceived, while others have admitted to knowing clearly what they were going for.

Petro Yatsenko, from the Ukrainian authority that deals with prisoners of war, said at the same press conference that Ukraine is open to negotiating the return of these combatants to their countries of origin.
