Yulimar Rojas misses the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The triple jump world record holderYulimar Rojas announced through his account on the social network Instagram, the impossibility of being able to participate in the next edition of the Olympic Games, scheduled for next summer in Paris, France.

"I want to inform you that I will not be able to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.. With a lot of pain and sadness I want to tell you that while I was training when I fell on the descent from a jump I had intense pain that was diagnosed as an injury to the left Achilles tendon," Rojas shared.

The 28-year-old Venezuelan also said she was "heartbroken" by the decision she had to make and added that she felt "so much sadness thatI want to apologize for not being able to represent you in Paris 2024".

"The desire to defend my Olympic title excited me enormously but today I have to stop, understand this, recover and come back with great strength to continue flying together," said the triple jumper, who accompanied her message with a photo in a hospital bed.

Rojas, who is a pupil of the Cuban Olympic and world medalistIvan Pedroso, holds in his record the best world record in the triple jump, set at 15.35 meters, which was an aspiration to break at the event in the French capital.

In 2022, he achieved the world record of 15.74, but on an indoor track, a result that suggested that he would achieve his goal in Paris.

Yulimar had obtained the Olympic quota on July 5, 2023, in theCentral American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, with a jump of 15.16.

In pursuit of her preparation, the athletedecided not to attend the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, in October 2023, to focus on preparation for Paris.
