Thedeath of a Cuban police officer, in a tragic accident in Havana last week, has generated an ethical debate on social networks.

While some Cubans express condolences, defend the integrity and humanity of the deceased, others criticize his role within the regime's repressive system, reflecting the tensions and challenges to maintain empathy in polarized contexts such as the one the island is experiencing.

CyberCuba analyzed more than 1,600 comments on social networks that reveal an inclination towards messages of support and respect for the death of the police officer.

Nearly 1,130 users defended the officer's honor, highlighting his personal qualities and positive impact on his environment.

In contrast, there were 60 comments that presented criticism of their role as part of law enforcement, and some 410 Internet users remained neutral.

Among the comments with the most likes, several stand out that illustrate the diversity of opinions:

"It is true that he was a human being and we should not rejoice in the misfortune of others. But he was a police officer and they do not care that we are also human beings, when they put us in prison for thinking differently."

"How much insensitivity, how much loss of values, this has never been seen before, rejoicing at the death of a human being without even knowing him... When ignorance speaks, intelligence remains silent."

"A person who does not agree with the dictatorship is also a human being like any other and should not be beaten and unjustly prosecuted by any police officer."

"May he rest in peace, he was a human being, son of God, and also young with a family, surely parents, brothers, children, let's not get carried away by hatred, his profession, or the repulsiveness of his uniform. He was a neighbor. E.P.D. "

"How can I say rest in peace, if that police officer went out to repress my people of Cuba on July 11, homeland and life always."

"Damn, he was my friend personally, no matter that he was a police officer, he was an excellent human being, a great friend, a great father, a great brother. Rest in peace, my brother. My condolences to your family."

"Many young people die when crossing the sea escaping from that country, for not receiving the support and protection from them, which is the duty of every police officer worldwide, so I'm sorry. Contempt is repaid with contempt."

"Believe it or not, in this case he was a young man full of dreams and family perspectives, he is an ordinary man, EPD, condolences to his loved ones."

This debate on social networks reflects not only the polarization around therole of the police in Cuba, but also the complexity of human emotions in times of crisis.

Through these comments, thecuban community shows on social networks its capacity for dialogue and reflection and the ethical values that define today's society.
