Chucho Valdés donates sheet music of his work "The Creation" to the US Library of Congress.

Regarding the donation of the score of "La Creación", Chucho Valdés said that he gave this piece because he considered it to be the most important work in my musical life.


The pianist Chucho Valdes, one of the greatest Cuban musicians of all time, donated to the United States Library of Congress a signed copy of the sheet music of “The Creation”.

It has been a dream come true to have witnessed so much history of universal music", wrote the artist in Instagram at the same time that he thanked the institution for the invitation made to him last Wednesday.

"I'm giving my best. I deliver it because I consider it to be the most important work in my musical life., represents my moment of greatest maturity," the prominent artist told the news agency WHICH, quoted by the media Infobae.

Regarding the relevance of the donated score, the composer and arranger also pointed out that this work represents the summary of all his experiences in music to date.

The pianist, Grammy and Latin Grammy winner, described the donation as a gift because the piece: "describes all the influence of African roots in the music of the entire Caribbean, of all of America. It is a work in which I used everything I know and that is why I am making this delivery".

According to the information available in the artist website, Chucho Valdés premiered the piece "La Creación" during the celebration of his 80th birthday at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami, on November 5, 2021.

Regarding the premiere of the composition, Chucho Valdés pointed out that it was the “ideal moment for its premiere. "It's much deeper than anything I've done so far," the man who has been described as the most influential figure in modern Afro-Cuban jazz wrote on his website.

The work fuses jazz and blues with African music and pure rhythms, in addition to using songs that are sung to different saints in the Yoruba language.

The signed score will form part of the vast collection of the archive of the Library of Congress Music Division, which has millions of historical documents including books, scores, instruments and other relevant elements.

Morgan Davis, a specialist at that institution, assured the agency WHICH that Chucho Valdés' donation will be cataloged and added to the archive, “and it will probably be one of the elements that has the greatest security".

This Cuban musician is admired by creators from everywhere and from any generation, especially those who have only been in the world of arts for a few years.

Recently, the young singer Diana Fuentes celebrated on his social networks the "enormous pleasure" of the reunion with "master Chucho Valdés".

With several photos, in which her son Marcel also appears, the Cuban singer and songwriter showed the memorable meeting with the famous musician, with whom she is also united by a "friendship with her children and family."
