The governor of Cienfuegos, Alexandre Corona Quintero, resigned from his position this Wednesday after supposedly "acknowledging errors committed in the exercise of his responsibility."

According to the Cuban official press, the official had presented his resignation to ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, alleging "errors" in his management, of which no details were offered.

A press release states that Díaz-Canel, "making use of the powers conferred on him, approved the cessation of his functions, informing the Provincial Council, and through the presidents of the municipal assemblies of the People's Power, to the delegates".

The functions of Corona Quintero will be assumed by Yolexis Rodríguez Armada, provincial vice governor, until the election of a new Governor is carried out, the local newspaper explained. September 5.

In recent weeks several senior officials of the Cuban regime as well as provincial officials have been dismissed, in the midst of the acute political and economic crisis facing the country, and after the announcement of an unpopular package of economic measures announced in January.

The cadre movements began on February 2 with the dismissal of Alejandro Gil Fernández as Cuban Minister of Economy and Planning.

Other ministers and heads of provincial governments followed.

Corona Quintero graduated in 1995 from the MININT Higher Institute in Villa Clara and began his working life as an Officer of said institution.

In 2006 he was promoted to the position of vice president of the Council of the Provincial Administration of People's Power in Cienfuegos and as of 2008 he was elected vice president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power in that territory.

In 2020 he was appointed by Díaz-Canel as a deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power, when he served as provincial governor for the Cienfuegos municipality of Abreu.
