TheMiami-Dade authorities, they detained the elderly CubanLázaro Valle-Villar, 74, for his alleged illegal participation in the US electoral process.
Valle-Villar faces several serious charges after registering and voting in local elections without having United States citizenship.
The charges made by theMiami-Dade State Tax Office, leadered byKatherine Fernandez Rundle, arise from an extensive investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the State Department's Bureau of Crime and Election Security, and the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Office.

Valle-Villar allegedly participated in theMiami municipal votes on November 2, 2021, where he marked on his voter registration form that he was a U.S. citizen, when he was not.
That statement has led to multiple accusations from the prosecution, including: Voting without being a qualified voter; make false claims related to voting or elections; submitting false information when registering as a voter; and making misleading statements to the Secretary of State.
Fernández Rundle issued a statement about the case, highlighting the importance of having theAmerican citizenship to exercise the right to vote.
"Voting is a privilege and a fundamental right reserved for American citizens. (...) Lázaro Valle-Villar could have become a citizen and voted legally if he had made the effort. However, he did not do so," said the prosecutor. .
