A few weeks ago it emerged that three men were arrested in San José de las Lajas, for allegedly killing several dogs from that municipality and then selling them as pork or mutton, and as minced meat.

"These elements remain detained, but the two women are missing, one named Marylin" and a man they call "Papi," animal rights activist Yenney Caballero said on Facebook.

Among them would be the alleged thief arrested on Friday night.

The event outraged several Cubans and forced theauthorities to issue a statement where he repudiated the "killing of dogs in that territory", which he described as "attacking all the standards of Animal Health and Welfare, violating the ethical and moral principles of our society."
