The Minister of Transportation of Cuba, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, recognized the terrible service that the government offers to those who must move to the Isle of Youth.

In a text shared on his profile , Rodríguez Dávila admitted that the process is extremely uncomfortable and cumbersome, from purchasing the ticket to arrival.

As he explained, the Perseverance ferry, which began operating last August, belongs to the Prácticos de Cuba Company, whose workers earn very low salaries, despite the fact that ticket prices range from 200 pesos for passengers to 780 pesos for vehicles.

In addition to the low salaries of the crew, the working conditions (food and availability of cabins) are bad. All of this makes it more difficult every day to recruit young people who wish to join the ship's staff.

Regarding the service offered to travelers, the leader agreed that in addition to how difficult it is to acquire tickets, there is also the "long and exhausting" wait from leaving Havana to arriving in Nueva Gerona.

"The conditions of the Batabanó terminal are far from comfortable and the entire system of assembly and disassembly of the buses is distressing to say the least. The Gerona terminal is not in better condition and the 26 terminal in Havana also requires attention" , he detailed.

The common denominator for travelers, in one direction or another, is the long waiting times and the poor information they are provided.

The minister did not refer to other problems that passengers traveling to the Isle of Youth have experienced, despite the fact that the Perseverancia has not even been in operation for a year.

Last March, stopped its services due to lack of fuel.

In September too There was a suspension of the service and the Viajero Company did not even explain the reason, only apologized and asked passengers to collaborate and, if possible, travel only for reasons that cannot be postponed.

The problems with the ferry further complicate the transportation panorama on the Isle of Youth, severely limited due to the shortage of boats.

Travel options for the population have been reduced, which keeps many citizens who depend on the maritime service for their basic travel in anxiety.
