Beachgoer finds $1 million worth of cocaine on Florida Keys beach

A bather found on a beach in the Florida Keys a 65-pound package of cocaine valued at approximately one million dollars, authorities revealed.

Samuel Briggs II, head of the Miami Sector of the Border Patrol, reported on Twitter that the protagonist of the incident discovered "a suspicious package" on the beach and immediately notified the authorities.

United States Border Patrol agents in collaboration with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office went to the scene, identified that the package was drugs and seized it, following the established protocol for a type of incident that is increasingly common in the coasts of the state.

Authorities did not specify where in the Florida Keys the cocaine was found.

In 2023 there were several similar events reported by the authorities.

At the beginning of October, Border Patrol agents seized 67 pounds of cocaine also discovered on a beach, in that case Daytona Beach.

At that time, the then head of the Miami Sector of the Border Patrol, Walter N. Slosar, indicated that the drugs found had an estimated street value of approximately $970,000.
