The Community of Walking Horses of Cuba gave an emotional farewell to El Narco, a thoroughbred who they claim was arbitrarily sacrificed by order of regime officials.
A video posted on the Facebook group "HORSE HARNESS RACING" shows that dozens of horses and their owners performed a procession in tribute to the beautiful specimen, a well-known racehorse that was confiscated and then euthanized by an order from the livestock department of the San Antonio de los Baños municipality, in Artemisa.
The animals and their trainers took a tour of the city center of the municipality of Consolación De Sur.
"Beautiful tribute this afternoon in the municipality of Consolación De Sur for EL NARCO. E.P.D. CHAMPION," wrote the Internet user identified as Pinar Barbero, author of the post.
Several members of the group denounced what they considered a crime, an arbitrariness and a sign of animal abuse, because although the livestock department alleged that the decision was due to the horse having an anemic infection, its owners showed a recent check-up where it was found that the equine was in perfect health and was very young.
Activists claim that they had the animal killed to eat it.
"How much pain his departure left me. EPD champion. Only he who had the pleasure of riding you and seeing you walk knows the pain felt by your absence. God bless you Narquito," commented an Internet user, who confirmed that the animal He was seized and sent to the slaughterhouse, where he was reduced to electric shocks, according to a video that circulated about the sacrifice.
"Justice, we are all still suffering from this murder, my God, it is not fair. This is defending this sport, united in so much pain"; "How sad it is to lose such a good animal in that way"; "Sacrifice a purebred animal, why? Whoever committed that crime must pay, but those who authorized it have no scruples. These people ask for justice and they have to hear it"; were some comments to the publication.
Members of the Facebook group also sent condolences to the owners of Narco and the team that trained him for years until he became a racing champion.
After the incident, members of the Facebook group "The TRUTH OF THE WALKING HORSES OF CUBA FRIENDS FOR THE WORLD" reported that the livestock department of the San Antonio de los Baños municipality, in Artemisa, gave the order to sacrifice Narco, alleging an anemic infection; But the owner of the horse, a man known as 'Gordo Salsa', assures that this argument is false, since he was tested recently, according to the health record.
His horse was extremely strong and fast and was apparently used in races where he often won.
"They cannot go around the farms seizing horses to sacrifice without probable cause. From our platform we demand irrefutable evidence of the examination of the animal showing the supposed anemic infection," demanded Facebook user Bandido Bandido.
Jorge Romero González, veterinary doctor, assured that the anemia issue is nothing more than a justification; while Internet user Yosvani Rodríguez González, from the Facebook group "Animal Protection Law in Cuba, Yes I Vote!", described the incident as animal abuse.
