The definitive closure of Perricone's Marketplace & Café, an iconic Italian restaurant in Brickell, Miami, after 27 years delighting its diners with its exquisite culinary offering, will leave a great void in the local gastronomic scene starting next Thursday.

Steven Perricone, the owner and founder of the establishment, announced through Instagram his decision to close the doors of the establishment, arguing that "times change and I am not so young anymore", thus justifying his determination due to his desire to dedicate more time to his family and other personal interests.

The 70-year-old New Yorker emphasized that “managing a restaurant, in the practical way I do, requires a lot of energy and concentration,” also pointing out that he has been in the gastronomy business for more than four decades.

Our last day will be Thursday, May 16, 2024”Perricone said with determination, while thanking all the people who accompanied him during the 27 years that the restaurant has been open.

Furthermore, with great nostalgia he recalled that during this time the location became a “daily meeting place for those who lived and worked in Brickell and, for the last four years, in The Roads.”

Finally, he recalled that from this restaurant he could observe how the Brickell neighborhood grew “to become a world center for international business.”

Proof of the great affection that the community feels for the Perricone's Marketplace & Café, its owner was surprised this Saturday by the explosives disposal unit of the Miami Police Department, who gave him a special prize.

Perricone published in Instagram that it was “a great pleasure to serve the members of the police force for the last 28 years,” resulting in great friendships and wonderful memories.

The original Perricone's opened on October 16, 1996, becoming one of the most popular restaurants in Brickell, long before the area became Wall Street South, and one of the trendiest neighborhoods on the planet. accurate The New Herald.

At first, everyone thought that this man, more than a visionary, was crazy. He bought the land in 1997 for $775,000: “My friends warned me that I would lose my shirt with this company. Somehow, in my heart, I knew that a sense of community was growing in Brickell,” Perricone said.

However, with its charmingly rustic decor and comforting Italian food dishes, the venue became the scene of countless date nights, after-work gatherings, and celebrations.

According to The New Herald, in 2018 Perricone sold the 11,000-square-foot lot for $16.18 million; However, the New Yorker ended up purchasing a 5,400-square-foot building for a new space on Roads, at 1700 SW Third Ave, a half-mile away.

In July 2020, during the pandemic Covid, Perricone’s Marketplace and Café was reborn in a new, modern space, which included, like its predecessor, a large cafe and market, filled with cheeses, baked goods and gourmet delights, with a full bar and outdoor seating.
