The current crisis affecting the Cuban regime with the fuel supply and the proliferation of blackouts has forced them to postpone the traditional Meteoro 2024 exercise, which is carried out to mobilize the population before the hurricane season.
The Civil Defense Headquarters of Cuba announced on social media X that they had decided to suspend the event "due to the complex situation of the national electrical system."
The exercise scheduled for this weekend has been rescheduled for May 31 and June 1, apparently with optimism that in less than fifteen days the current situation in the country will find a better path.
In an interview granted to the Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet, recently published in the official newspaper Granma, ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel acknowledged that the Island is "in an extremely complex situation regarding energy."
According to him, under his management, power generation fails "due to lack of fuel, lack of maintenance, or the coincidence of both factors". Ultimately, the blame for blackouts lies in "technological problems" and in the fact that "maintenance strategies" have been organized with the idea of "reducing the level of disruptions in summer".
Despite the president's justifications, it is the people who are experiencing constant stress due to power outages, which have exceeded 14 hours in some areas.
Last Thursday night, protests were recorded in Baracoa, Guantánamo, where people took to the streets to express their outrage at the abusive lack of electricity and food shortages.
"We want electricity and food!" could be heard shouted by several people during demonstrations in which there were no acts of vandalism or altercations with the police.
