Cuban priest will ring the church bells 30 times as a protest during blackout nights.

I will ring the church bells with the slow toll of funeral processions, the toll that announces death and mourning: the death of our freedom and our rights.

Cuban priest Alberto Reyes, a strong critic of the government, announced that every night the electricity is cut off, he will ring the bells of his church 30 times in protest of the long blackouts that are plaguing the population.

Reyes, parish priest of the diocese of Camagüey, spoke on his Facebook wall about his personal initiative to draw attention to the crisis that is engulfing the Cuban people in "the suffocation and sinking of our lives."

"I will ring the church bells 30 times, with the slow toll of funeral processions, with the toll that announces death and mourning: the agonizing death of our freedom and our rights," he said.

The portal Cuba Trendings shared a video on its Facebook profile taken at the parish of the municipality of Esmeralda, where the slow tolling of the bell can be seen and heard, as promised by Father Reyes.

It is important to remember that the priest is in charge of 14 rural parishes in the diocese of Camagüey, one of the provinces that has reported the most power outages in recent days, according to an interactive map developed by CiberCuba.
