The former Cuban baseball player Serguey Pérez Guillén, from Havana, affectionately known as Cuquito, is in Miami after traveling to the United States through the family reunification process.
Serguey played as an outfielder for more than a decade on the Metropolitanos and Industriales teams, winning championships with the latter in 2006 and 2010.
He was part of the national pre-selection several times until he retired from active sports in 2013, with an average of .301. In his career, he fell short by 13 home runs from reaching a hundred and hit 1,240 hits with 613 RBIs.
According to sports journalist Yasel Porto, Cuquito was one of the best batters in the capital and also had one of the most powerful arms among outfielders.
Originally from Guanabacoa, Serguey had an extraordinary career in the lower categories, and although his only season in the National Series was not impressive, he gradually became a good baseball player," he said on Facebook.
Pérez Guillén was denied entry to the United States years ago when he was invited to participate in a special event for veterans of the Industriales team.
"Now he finally manages to travel, thus reuniting with relatives and friends," Porto added, before wishing him and his family all the best.
