A young Cuban police officer dies in a traffic accident in Holguin.

The premature death of the young man has left his friends and relatives dismayed.

A police officer died in a traffic accident in the municipality of Mayarí, in the province of Holguín, according to various reports from acquaintances of the victim on social media.

The premature physical disappearance of the young man, who has been identified as Maikel Céspedes Babastro, has caused deep consternation and sorrow among his friends and coworkers.

Details of the accident in which the police officer died have not been revealed, although Lisett Isabel Hernández Ez Fernández specified on social media that he died while performing his duty.

With deep sadness, I have learned of the tragic accident that has taken you from us. While you were diligently carrying out your duty, cruel fate intervened and snatched you from our lives. Your loss has left an immense void in our hearts. You were a loyal friend, a loving brother, and an exceptional colleague. Your contagious smile, sharp wit, and unwavering dedication will be deeply missed," wrote the aforementioned source on Facebook.

As your friend, sister, and companion, I thank you for the countless moments of joy, support, and growth that we shared. Your presence enriched our lives and made us better people," she added.

I urge all my colleagues to take care of each other. Life is precious and fragile. Let's cherish every moment we have together and support each other in good and bad times," he concluded.

Another police officer who spent a year with Maikel Céspedes during a "Service Commission in Havana" also left him heartfelt farewell words.

"This great companion, friend, brother, lost his life in an accident that occurred on the Mayarí highway. I express my deepest sorrow to the family. R.I.P, brother," wrote Leinier Rojas on Facebook.

My brother, how much pain upon receiving the news that you had left us... Many of us brothers had our hearts broken. We will always carry you in our hearts. Rest in peace, Maikel," wrote José Ernesto Cutiño Cuza.

As of the closing of this report, there are no further details regarding the traffic accident in which Maikel Céspedes Babastro died.

Accidents of all kinds have not let up on Cuban roads since the beginning of the year, following the same trend that was already evident in 2023.

Last year, 729 people lost their lives in Cuba as a result of traffic accidents. Authorities recorded 8,556 road accidents that left 5,938 injured. Human error was responsible for 91% of these incidents, authorities stated.
