A woman with a long history of scams in the city of Santiago de Cuba was arrested this Monday after a victim, together with neighbors, managed to detain her and call the police, as reported by journalist Yosmany Mayeta.
“This woman was rented at the VICOA apartments on Micro 9 and there she emptied the entire apartment,” a source told the aforementioned communicator.
"She used fake IDs to be able to scam, and today by chance a relative of the victim of said theft recognized her, and quickly the neighbors did not hesitate to corner her and report her to the authorities," added the witness.
The alleged scammer would be named Yuleidis Cala - better known as "Yuya" - and lives on Pizzaro Street, between 5th and 6th, in the Flores neighborhood.
The arrest took place on Carlos Dubois Street, very close to the Alameda of Santiago de Cuba.
In some of the images that have been circulated, the woman can be seen remaining silent when she was cornered by several people. She neither defended herself nor denied the accusations.
In another published video, we see the moment when the woman was taken out of a house and put into a police car, in front of the expectant gaze of dozens of neighbors.
In the comments section of Mayeta Labrada's post, a significant number of internet users said they had been directly scammed by that woman or shared experiences of people close to them who were deceived.
Finally, let's hope he pays for everything he has done. He has been scamming for a long time with several complaints to the police. There are many things to tell from that story," someone pointed out.
I know her. She came to my house several times on a motorbike she uses for scams. She came to sell me beef and other things. She asked me to lend her money, but I never gave it to her. She is with a motorcyclist who also scams," said another commenter.
"Thank God they caught her. She scammed my mom and my grandfather years ago. Let the full weight of the law fall on her," said a woman.
"She is brazen and with time passes through the doors of the victims again as if nothing had happened," emphasized a third victim.
However, several people doubted whether she will actually go to jail for a long time or settle her debt with justice.
"I imagine that she must have some sort of relationship or connection with someone in the police because this woman has been up to no good for years and nothing happens to her," pointed out a commentator who fears that this arrest will ultimately have no consequences.
