The Jardines del Rey International Airport in Ciego de Ávila received the first flight from World2Fly airline from Lisbon, Portugal this Tuesday.

The Airbus A330-300 arrived with 372 passengers on board. This flight marks the beginning of an air operation that will have a weekly frequency every Tuesday until September 24th.

Aylin Rodríguez Gutiérrez, flight supervisor at World2Meet group, travel division of Iberostar group, told Invasor that most of the seats for these flights are already sold.

Portuguese tourists will stay in hotel facilities in the Jardines del Rey tourist area.

Despite this interest from travelers, tourism in Cuba continues to face significant challenges, especially due to criticisms of the quality of hotel services.

The Cuban government has identified tourism as one of its main priorities for the economic development of the country. They allocate the highest investments to this sector, but problems persist.

In an attempt to attract more visitors and improve Cuba's tourist image, World2Fly also operated its first flight of the season to Varadero, to the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport, with 430 passengers, also departing from Lisbon.

This flight, together with the one developed to Jardines del Rey, reinforces the Cuban government's strategy of using tourism as a key driver of the economy.
