Cuban among mobile home neighbors facing eviction in Miami

The landowners in Miami have already set the date for these tenants to leave. More than a hundred families must relocate.

A Cuban is among the neighbors of a mobile home park in Miami-Dade that could be evicted very soon.

This Wednesday, a group of neighbors demonstrated in public space to prevent the eviction and reach agreements with the owners of the land.

This is the Palm Lakes Mobile Home Park community. At the beginning of this year, the residents received a notice informing them that they must leave their homes, but some of them have been established in this area for over 30 years.

The field accommodates more than 120 mobile homes, in an area of 9 acres. The land was put up for sale to promote an affordable housing urban development.

The Cuban Eduardo Piñeiro was interviewed by América Noticias. He pointed out that the owners of the land have rights, but as tenants, they also have legal support.

The owners want to kick us out, but this is not new, I have been here for 35 years. In this community, some people pay up to $2,000 a month in rent. They are shameless, of course, shameless with a title, because they are the owners," the Cuban pointed out.

I ask the US government to do justice, to let the owners know that we, as poor people, citizens, and human beings, also have rights. This is a democratic country, they cannot violate anyone's rights. We are not in Cuba or a South American country. We need to reach an agreement," Piñeiro insisted.

The urban development being driven by Miami-Dade is causing land and property values to increase. Thousands of people are slowly leaving the city because they cannot afford the high rental prices.

These neighbors claim they will fight to reach an agreement, so as not to leave their homes empty-handed after 30 years.
