The Electric Union (UNE) predicted power outages for this Saturday due to a generation deficit of 550 MW, which represents one-fifth of the country's demand.
In an informative note, UNE explained on Facebook that unit 6 of the Nuevitas Thermoelectric Plant (CTE), unit 6 of the Rente CTE, and units 1 and 2 of the Felton CTE are stopped due to breakdown. Additionally, unit 1 of the Santa Cruz CTE, unit 5 of the Nuevitas CTE, and unit 5 of the Rente CTE are undergoing maintenance.
These disruptions limit thermal generation by around 340 MW; in addition to 132 MW that are out of service due to the lack of fuel in 35 distributed generation plants.
During peak hours, an availability of 2370 MW and a maximum demand of 2850 MW are estimated, resulting in a deficit of 480 MW. Therefore, if the forecasted conditions persist, an impact of 550 MW is predicted for this timeframe," stated UNE.
On Friday, the service was affected due to a capacity deficit from 9:07 in the morning until 10:51 at night, with a maximum impact of 598 MW at 6:00 in the evening, which coincided with peak time.
As usual, Cubans reacted indignantly to the announcement, in a context where power outages do not give respite and extend for up to 20 hours in some regions of the island.
The worst thing we Cubans have is not having land borders; those without money are doomed on this island to die from mortifications and impotence, not to mention other things that go without saying," commented an Internet user.
