The body of the young Cuban Geyler Castillo Benítez, who had been missing for a month in the municipality of Campechuela, Granma, was found on the coast in an advanced state of decomposition, confirmed the family on social media.

Her relatives, who had been searching intensively for four weeks and offering a reward of 80,000 pesos for information on his whereabouts, said that the experts confirmed that the skeleton found belonged to the young man, who was last seen in mid-May.

Norveida Castillo, the young man's aunt, stated that her nephew's death left "a lot of sadness."

Niover Castillo, another family member, said that "the experts' report confirmed that the remains belonged to Castillo Benítez," and thanked the people who participated in the search.

Another internet user, close to the family, indicated that it could have been a murder: "If there is a law in the world, whoever committed such an atrocity should be punished by the law, because no one has the right to take someone's life," she stated.

A woman commented on a Facebook post that she was at the beach with the children and saw the corpse, of which only the skeleton remained. "There was a bad smell, so I took the children back home," she said.

Reports of disappearances are becoming increasingly common in Cuba in a context marked by a rise in violence, illegal departures from the country, lack of treatment for patients with mental illnesses, and growing poverty that particularly affects the younger population.
