Car gets submerged in the middle of a downpour in Havana.

In the images recorded by the Internet user, a large pool of water nearly a meter deep can be seen, in which a lot of garbage and waste, plastic containers, bags, and other debris are floating.

A car was submerged on Friday in a street in Havana after the intense rains that affected the Cuban capital during the last 48 hours.

A Cuban internet user reported this, sharing images and videos of what happened in the Facebook group 'Bus & Truck Accidents'.

"In yesterday's downpour, by the Vehicle Registry of Cerro," the user indicated in their post, locating the scene on the streets near the Vehicle Registry of Havana, located on Calzada de 10 de Octubre between San Leonardo and San Beatriz streets.

In the video recorded by the internet user, a large pool of water nearly a meter deep is seen, filled with a lot of garbage and waste, plastic containers, bags, and other debris floating on the surface. The submerged car was parked right in front of a sign that read "Do not litter."

Several of the users who commented on the post drew attention to this floating garbage layer and blamed the clogging of the street drains on the amount of waste that accumulates in the streets of Cuba.

The energy crisis and the few vehicles available to provide the Communal service in the capital are having a significant impact on the daily lives of Cubans, who have recently seen infectious hotspots and garbage accumulations proliferate in the city streets.

This Friday, the Forecast Center of the Cuban Meteorology Institute (INSMET) issued an alert for heavy rains and strong winds in the western and central regions of the country.

A special note signed by the director of that organization, Miriam Teresita Llanez, explained that the island was under an anticyclonic influence in the Atlantic that imposed a humid flow in the lower levels of the troposphere.

In addition, the presence of an upper trough over the Gulf of Mexico, together with tropical waves south of Cuba, would favor the occurrence of showers, rain, and thunderstorms.

Therefore, INSMET pointed out that in the coming days, favorable meteorological conditions will persist for precipitation to occur in much of the country, primarily in the central and western regions.

These conditions will remain during this Saturday, Sunday, and the following week, so the rains will continue to be strong and intense, the publication detailed. Additionally, it clarified that these conditions were normal for this time of the year, making June, on average, the rainiest month in Cuba.

On Thursday, shocking images of the floods in Havana caused by these torrential rains emerged. "Trash tanks, waste, young people playing and bathing in the floods in the Cerro municipality in Havana today," witnesses of the images described on social media.

In addition to the above, there are other consequences of the rains in the capital: the collapses of dilapidated buildings abandoned by the authorities. The heavy rains on Thursday caused the collapse of a building in Old Havana, according to reports published on social media.

Specifically, the La Tijera page on Facebook reported the collapse of the property located at 417 Esperanza, between Carmen and Figuras streets, which had been in danger of collapsing for years according to neighbors in the area.
