Family searches for missing Cuban in Guyana.

Relatives of a Cuban resident in Guyana for a year are desperately seeking information to help locate him, after over four months of being missing.

Wilber Oliva Leyva, known as Kiki, 40 years old and who settled in that South American country in 2023, has been missing since the beginning of this year, according to posts on social media by his relatives and local media.

A young woman who identifies herself on Facebook as Yely HG wrote: "Let's go for more, your family does not give up, we are going to find you," and shared a post from the media outlet Action News Guyana on that social network.

The statement indicates that Oliva was renting an apartment somewhere on Charlotte Street in Georgetown, and provides a telephone number - (592) 621 8359 - for anyone with information that can help locate him.

Furthermore, it specifies that, according to Oliva's family members, the last people he was seen with "were identified as Yasira Palmero Meriño and Yadiel Brook, both Cubans."

In the comments on the post, Palmero addressed the family and categorically denied knowing anything about the missing man. "It would be a pleasure for me to be able to help you, but the truth is we never lived with Wilber and he disappeared without saying anything, and I believe that if Yadiel and I knew, we would tell his families why," he stated.

In a message in that same publication, Yely HG thanked, on behalf of the family, all those who are helping to find Oliva and asked "anyone who has any information to contact us."

However, in a publication last Thursday, the young woman warned concerned about a phone call to the family made by a person who, posing as Oliva, urged them to delete the post about her disappearance.

"The person behind all of this wants us to remove the post so it cannot be found, they just sent a message from their own phone as if it were them. We need to make this go more viral and with more force," Yely asked.

That person who thinks we are going to do whatever they want is very mistaken. We are not going to stop searching, much less remove the post... Please share, there is something very strange here and we are going to uncover it," they warned.

Other relatives have also shared the request for help through social networks, to locate Oliva, who is originally from Esmeralda, Camagüey.

In recent years, Guyana has become a frequent destination for Cubans, both for those who must attend immigration interviews at the United States embassy in Georgetown, and for a large number who have settled in that South American country after leaving Cuba in search of better life opportunities.
