Biden's migration measures cause collapse in CBP One mobile application.

Asylum in the United States is only possible for migrants who enter the country through CBP One appointments at border ports.

The migratory measures approved by the Joe Biden Administration are causing a collapse in the CBP One mobile application.

This app is essential for migrants at the border to request appointments and present their asylum cases at entry ports to the United States.

CBP One grants 1,450 appointments per day and the Biden Administration assured that they do not plan to increase them. The large number of people trying to use the platform has been causing technical issues for some time. The situation is expected to worsen.

The journalist Alexis Boente interviewed immigration lawyer Avelino González, who mentioned the main obstacles that migrants are facing when trying to request appointments through the CBP One app.

The appointments are tremendously delayed. The process is quite random. Many times in these border areas, the signal is not good, people cannot communicate properly. The photo scanner is not working correctly," Gonzalez noted.

Last week, the Democratic president assured that the possibility of applying for asylum "will continue to be available" for those seeking to legally immigrate to the United States and schedule an appointment through the CBP One application.

"Migrants will not be able to receive asylum at our southern border unless they request it after entering through a legal process. Those seeking to come legally to the U.S., for example by making an appointment (CBP One) and arriving at a port of entry, asylum will still be available," Biden stated from the White House.

This translates to a larger number of migrants opting to schedule an appointment through the CBP One mobile application, the same amount of appointments granted per day, and therefore, a higher possibility of collapse of the technological tool.

Once the migrant manages to access the application, appointments can take up to five months to materialize. The waiting periods, under extremely complex conditions, can be too long for many families and vulnerable individuals.

In May, before the possibility of Biden's executive order being signed was known, CBP said that it is "aware that the appointment system is not working correctly" and assured that they are working to "resolve these issues as soon as possible."
