Cubana de Aviación announced that starting on June 17, it will resume direct flights between the José Martí International Airport in Havana and the Tocumen International Airport in Panama City.

The airline -which did not specify the type of aircraft that will make the journey- did indicate that the flights will have two weekly frequencies, on Mondays and Fridays, with fares starting at 331 USD.

For that price, travelers will be entitled to "a two-bag allowance (plus taxes)" and the opportunity to purchase extra luggage on the passenger flight, as well as on the airline's cargo operations.

Those interested in obtaining more information can contact the airline at the phone number +53-76490410.

Cubans need a visa to enter Panama.

To obtain the visa, citizens of the island must follow the procedure established by the Consulate of that Central American country, which includes the presentation of a valid passport, a visa application form, a recent photograph, proof of economic solvency, and other requirements that may vary depending on the type of visa requested.

In recent years, the number of Cubans who visited Panama in search of the so-called shopping tourism has skyrocketed.

According to data released in April by the Visitors Passes section of the Security Department, the Colon Free Trade Zone (FTZ), a regional hub for shopping and tourism, Cubans led the visits to the so-called Panama Free Trade Zone in 2023, with 15,042 visitors, closely followed by Ecuador, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Peru.

The noticeable presence of Cubans in this free trade zone began to grow several years ago, when Panama relaxed entry requirements for Cubans into the country; and it has not stopped despite the creation of stores in MLC by the Havana regime to stop the "escape" of foreign currency; because with the authorization of SMEs and the failure of the mentioned stores, exports from these countries increased again.
