After two decades of one of the most controversial marriages of that time, between Sara Montiel and the Cuban Tony Hernández, who is 36 years younger than the renowned actress, the controversy surrounding their relationship remains alive.

The recent appearance of the Cuban on the show Y ahora Sonsoles fueled the myth that has always pursued the couple, a relationship that began with the correspondence that Hernández sent from the Caribbean island and ended with a three-year marriage, from 2002 to 2005.

"I was very happy with Sara, I truly loved her, talking about her brings me emotions," declared the ex-husband of the well-known Sara Montiel.

"I regret having confronted her, because all this wouldn't have happened," he lamented, alluding to the statements he made at the time, in the midst of the breakup and subsequent divorce. "Her image was affected."

Hernández mentioned that he always admired the singer and actress before becoming his wife.

He reported that when Montiel decided to divorce him, she claimed that the reason was their children, "that he had to pick them up again," he pointed out.

According to Hernández, she told the press that her son was anorexic, which was not true, as later confirmed.

At that moment, he expressed feeling hurt.

Moreover, he recounted that Sara Montiel was deceived with the argument that he intended to take advantage of her. This led the actress to confront him publicly.

"Was I going to take advantage of her? Of course not. Look, I even have Spanish citizenship through my grandfather," he told Sonsoles. "All Cubans who get involved with Spaniards end up living here (Spain), and I'm still in Cuba, struggling, because it's tough."

"Where is my opportunism?" asked Hernández, who recounted that despite the "war" between them, they still maintained communication.

"One month before he died, we talked naturally," he confessed.

Finally, he pointed out that Sara Montiel's close friends confessed to him that in an intimate setting, she spoke highly of him; however, on television, the opposite was true.

Hernández tried to provide an explanation about this particular issue by pointing out that Montiel on television had to maintain her ego and the story that the Cuban took advantage of her.

With Hernandez, Montiel had her fourth and final marriage. Previously, she had been married to director Anthony Mann, José Vicente, Ramírez Olalla, and businessman Pepe Tous, with whom she adopted her children, Thais and Zeus.

The relationship between both of them was always tumultuous and controversial, publicly noted for being a media stunt due to their numerous appearances on television and exclusive interviews.

Montiel was caught leaving the courthouse after getting married, but denied the marriage to the press to sell the exclusive, in a moment remembered by her words: "But what's happening? But what?" as pointed out by the magazine pronto.es.

Several websites agree in pointing out that Tony Hernández was the last great love of the life of the actress and singer Sara Montiel. However, they also indicate that he was the reason she distanced herself from her children.

"Since I heard the news of Sara's death (2013), I have been very depressed and, for the first time in my life, I am seeing a psychologist. I am experiencing total depression and dream of her many nights. My conscience is clear, and no one can ever say that I took advantage of her. Something that is really affecting me is when they say that her image deteriorated since she was with me. Sara never reproached me about anything," Hernández said after the death of his ex-wife, as reported by pronto.es.
