Mambomania: Cuban mambo lives on social media.

Mambomanía: the love for mambo on social media through videos, dances, and challenges.

Although many are unaware that mambo was born in Cuba and others do not feel a great preference for this rhythm, the genre does live on social media through challenges, funny videos, covers, evocations, and various creative manifestations.

There are various opinions about who its creator was, and some point to the brothers Israel Cachao and Orestes López in the 1930s. However, universally, Pérez Prado is recognized as the artist who popularized it most widely.

However, the controversial Cuban rhythm - unknown to many even within its land of origin - lives on social media where videos dedicated to it become viral.

The Instagram profile of the Pérez Prado Orchestra has carried out meticulous work by offering different perspectives in which the genre thrives on social media, a phenomenon they have referred to as "mambomania".

One of these videos shows the Stormtroopers, soldiers of the Galactic Empire in the "Star Wars" saga, performing a beautiful choreography dancing a mambo.

The mambomanía also features a video of Mambo number five, where a group of women is shown teaching how to dance the genre in a peculiar way, with steps like the "grandma's walk", "washing clothes", "hanging clothes", and "little red riding hood".

The Instagram profile highlighted that mambo has been able to captivate people with a very different culture than that of Latinos. In this sense, they presented a video of Kyoto Tachibana SHS Band, where it can be appreciated that they perform a song belonging to the genre, in the streets of Japan.

Even internationally renowned artists, such as Lady Gaga, have succumbed to the charms of the mambo craze: "Because you asked for it, Lady Gaga singing in Spanish to the rhythm of Pérez Prado's song Sway," the orchestra pointed out on social media.

Although mambo as a musical genre may not be widely danced in Cuba, the so-called mambo craze is a phenomenon that captivates and demonstrates its powerful presence on social media and beyond.
