The Manufactured Gas Company informed its customers about the implementation of a new odorizing product for the perception and detection of gas leaks.
It will begin to be used on the Playa – Marianao network starting on June 19 and will progressively extend to the entire Havana network.
The authorities ensure that they will carry out the necessary monitoring and sampling to guarantee the control and safety of the system.
The new product is characterized by an unusual smell, similar to garlic, which will allow for a quick identification of possible leaks. Its inclusion is due to the unavailability of the previous product used to date.
This gas odorizer has been subjected to studies and analysis by specialists who certify its quality and safety. It is backed by its use in Europe and China. It does not present risks to health and constitutes an effective measure for the early detection of leaks, helping to prevent possible accidents.
The announcement of the new product comes in a context of growing concern about the gas supply in Cuba.
Recently, in the municipality of Sancti Spiritus, more than 10,000 households were without liquefied gas service for 18 days due to fuel shortages.
The sale of gas restarted intermittently and with limitations this week, affecting thousands of customers who are still waiting for the gas to arrive for cooking.
The Manufactured Gas Company recommends the population to be alert to any strange smell and report any suspicion of a leak to the relevant authorities immediately.
