Cuban journalist Javier Díaz, who resides in the United States, arrived in Barcelona this weekend to celebrate his birthday with his family.

Javier turns 36 this Sunday and wanted to spend it in the most amazing way with his loved ones in Barcelona.

"This year I only asked to spend my birthday with my family, and they made this trip possible," he said on his Facebook wall, along with a video of the reception they gave him.

The biggest surprise awaited me at the airport: everyone was there to welcome me without me knowing! There is no better gift than being surrounded by the love and joy of family," he pointed out.

Numerous followers of the reporter and announcer on Univisión 23 congratulated him and wished him blessings and success.

Díaz, who has been living in the United States since January 2016, is a very family-oriented person.

Last January, he mourned the death in Cuba of one of his dearest aunts without being able to say goodbye.

One of my dearest aunts has just passed away, suddenly, and I can't even say goodbye. The family separation is truly sad when these losses happen, and I can't even imagine what closer family bonds must feel.

The Cuban who emigrates and the one who stays always risks going through these losses. Today I will be away from social media. I take with me the memory of a wonderful aunt who made me laugh even when I was always very serious. Rest in peace, aunt! From a distance, I honor you today," he wrote.

Last October, he reunited with his parents after more than seven months without seeing them in person.

The journalist shared a photo on Facebook with his mom and dad at the beach. The three of them looked very happy, although he didn't specify where they were.

"I had not seen my parents for over seven months. I know perfectly well how the separation of families affects thousands of Cubans. I hope that sooner rather than later, all Cuban families can also be together even if only for brief moments," he said.
