A video on TikTok has caught the attention of millions of users by showing the words of a father who unconditionally supports his lesbian daughter.
Published on the girl's profile (@mrgirlkisser) last Father's Day, and in the context of Pride month, the video has accumulated over 3.4 million views at the time of this note, and exceeds 320 thousand likes and 5,600 comments.
The story began when a follower asked how the young woman's father would react, after her mother expressed her support in another video.
In response, the father shared a series of statements expressing his pride and love for his daughter, challenging stereotypes and celebrating their relationship: "I am the father of a lesbian and obviously she steals my clothes. I am the father of a lesbian and obviously I have been told that I will not be a grandfather. I am the father of a lesbian and obviously I give her advice on how to pick up a girl. I am the father of a lesbian and obviously I am at ease because there will be no man in her life. I am the father of a lesbian and obviously they have told me that I have a son, and ask me about it," he is heard saying in the video, which closes with "I am the father of a lesbian and obviously she will always be my princess."
The video has generated a wave of mostly positive comments on TikTok, where many expressed their admiration for the father: “The dad we all want”; “Bravo, for more fathers like this. And that phrase of always being his princess”; “I congratulate and respect you for being a good father who accepts his daughter as she is. Blessings”; “I find it respectable, because a child is a child no matter their choices, the important thing is the happiness of each person, I congratulate that way of thinking”; “That’s being a father, giving support to your children regardless of their preferences. Congratulations for being such a good father”; “Your daughter must be very proud of you…”; “How good that you support your daughter as you should, I wish there were more fathers like you… I think children should be loved just as they are”, reads among the messages.
Although most responses celebrated the love and acceptance shown by the father, reactions did not lack questions, hate, or discriminatory messages. Precisely in response to one that predicted they would go to hell, they later shared a joint video where they addressed the criticisms and argued that videos like theirs bring visibility to parental support for their children, regardless of their preferences, personal choices, or sexual orientation.
