Cuban boxers strengthen their fists in France on the road to Paris 2024

Led by the current two-time Olympic champions Julio César la Cruz and Arlen López, the team is completed by world medalists Saidel Horta, Erislandy Álvarez, and Alejandro Claro.

In order to seek optimal athletic form, the five Cuban boxers qualified for Paris 2024 traveled to France to set up a training base less than 40 days before the opening of the Olympic Games.

Headed by the reigning two-time Olympic champions Julio César la Cruz, in the 92-kilogram category, and Arlen López (80), the team is completed by world medalists Saidel Horta (57), Erislandy Álvarez (63.5), and Alejandro Claro (51).

According to JIT's digital page, the boxers are currently focused in the Tremblay-en-France commune, but starting July 5, they will be part of an international training camp in the town of Nancy.

Alberto Puig de la Barca, president of the Cuban Federation of the discipline, announced that they will face off against representatives from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, India, Germany, England, Ireland, and Puerto Rico.

Without a doubt, boxing is one of the most important disciplines on the island in anticipation of the Olympic competition, which will take place from August 26 to July 11.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the largest of the Antilles celebrated four gold medals: those of La Cruz and López, along with the victories of Roniel Iglesias and Andy Cruz, who were not part of the qualifying process. As for the latter, he is currently pursuing a career in professional boxing.

The story goes that Cuba has accumulated 41 gold medals, 19 silver, and 18 bronze in Olympic boxing. It is no coincidence that it is regarded as the flagship of the island's sports movement.

With the multi-award-winning wrestler Mijaín López as the bearer of the national flag, Cuba aims to win five gold medals at Paris 2024 and finish among the top 25 nations in the final standings.

Three years ago in the Japanese capital, the Island finished in fourteenth place, with a total of seven gold medals, three silver medals, and five bronze medals.
