They control fire at Girón building in Havana.

The fire has been declared under control, but it is not yet extinguished due to the presence of smoke at the site.


Around midday, Cuban firefighters controlled a fire that occurred Saturday morning at the Girón building in Havana.

The official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso confirmed the news, thanking the work of the firefighters.

According to the user Carlos Espinosa Betancourt, who shared images in the "Wonderful Malecón" Facebook group, an official from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) stated that the fire was under control, but not extinguished, due to the presence of smoke still in the area.

In the shared images, you can see how the firefighters managed to rescue an elderly woman in a wheelchair.

Hours before, due to the presence of a dense trail of smoke visible in various parts of the Cuban capital, the Municipal Administration Council of Plaza de la Revolución alerted the residents of Havana through a message on social media about what was happening.

We inform our population that at this moment, firefighters are working on extinguishing a fire at the Girón Building, located on Malecón and F," stated from the Facebook profile of this Cuban government agency.

They also stated that the top authorities of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Government in Havana were present at the location.

However, the causes that led to this medium-sized fire are still unknown.
