The exam consisted of solving in five hours four algorithmic problems, in which different programming topics subdivided into subtasks can arise. The same problem can have several solution algorithms for a certain range of data.

The Cuban team was made up of: Camilo Triana Barata, Maité Morales Carreras, Marcos Antonio Escandón García, and Manuel Alejandro Plana Méndez, from Villa Clara; Adrián Pacheco Rubio, Christian Ernesto Lugo Dorta, César Raúl Luís González, and Reinier García Montes de Oca, from Matanzas; Francis José Rodríguez Ronda, Sergio Jorge Montero López, and Zaniel García Orihuela, from Las Tunas; Luis Felipe Hernández Álvarez, from Camagüey; Karen A. Cardona described the results as admirable and praised the performance of the students, some of whom even competed while sick and still delivered a great performance. He also congratulated their respective provincial coaches.

The Villa Clara residents Camilo Triana Barata, Marco Antonio Escandón García, and Maite Morales Carreras, along with Francis José Rodríguez Ronda from Las Tunas, make up the team that will compete in the International Olympiad, which will take place in Egypt from September 1 to 9.

According to the teacher, Cuba has been competing in the Ibero-American Mathematics Olympiads since 1998, only skipping the one in 2010. Out of a total of 257 participants, 141 medals have been obtained: 21 gold, 43 silver, and 77 bronze.

On this occasion, the boys participated from the Tomás López Jiménez Laboratory at the University of Computer Science (UCI).
