An animal rights activist in Mayabeque rescued a puppy this Monday, found abandoned inside a tied plastic bag. She visibly moved stated, “If he hadn’t moved, he would have suffocated without being able to breathe.”

Yenney Caballero reported the incident on Facebook and stated that, unlike the individual who mistreated the animal, she will fight for the dog: "If it does not survive, it will have a dignified end as a living being."

The activist reported that the young dog appears to have a disease known as distemper, and although he is already receiving treatment with an IV, she has asked for help: "I would greatly appreciate anyone who could provide me with some phenobarbital tablets."

"They could have placed it at the entrance of the veterinary clinic or at my doorstep; I would never leave a baby like that abandoned," said Caballero, who has proven to be a passionate advocate for animals.

"The misery of humanity is great, that's why they don't prosper. I'm tired of human beings," she expressed, wishing she could take the animals away from a planet she sees as filled with people lacking values.

Hours after reporting the animal abuse incident, Caballero informed that the puppy is not in good health.

"Distemper is a very terrible disease. We are currently at the veterinarian administering medication because I am not going to give up," said the animal protector while sharing a gallery of photos showing that they are doing everything possible to save the puppy's life.

"I ask God for him to make it, but if that’s not the case, he is receiving a lot of love and all the necessary care," she stated in her post.

Cases of animal abandonment are not isolated incidents.

The inaction of the Cuban regime concerning animal protection and rights often leaves many dogs, cats, and horses at the mercy of their owners' abuses.

Recently, the abandonment of five newborn puppies left out in the rain sparked great outrage among animal activists in Sancti Spíritus, who mobilized through social media to save the lives of the little dogs.

The ARCA Foundation described the incident on Facebook as "a tragedy" while informing that the puppies had been rescued: "They have been collected, but a nursing mother is urgently needed."

A netizen reported on Monday that a dog was abandoned at a bus stop in Havana, where it was left tied to a fence with a collar and its name written on a piece of cardboard. The animal has been rescued, and they are now looking for someone to adopt it.
