Lázaro Miyares Escalona, a young Cuban man only 25 years old residing in Bayamo, in the province of Granma, died on Sunday night after being fatally stabbed in the central promenade of that municipality.
Odalys Silva, who identified herself on social media as the victim's cousin, stated in the comments section of a post that the young man was killed "while leaving work for defending a coworker," although she did not provide any other details about the circumstances of the crime.
In another post that has gone viral from the Facebook group Revolico Bayamo, Deylin Rosales explained that the young man - known as "Lachi" by his acquaintances - left work, started "having a drink for a while" in the company of his girlfriend and out of nowhere, as they were leaving and after a simple exchange of words, several people who were at the place beat him up and one of them stabbed him.
Things like these: Listen... 9:37 pm: He left work and went to have a drink with Yesica at EGREM and as they were leaving, the killer said, 'What?' and Lazaro said, 'What?' and the killer attacked him and the four of them started hitting him. When his friend picked him up, another person came and stabbed him," Rosales described.
The first gentlemen. To this innocent child, on our Bayamo walk. I hope the authorities come down on him with the full weight of the law. They didn't even respect the walk, so many children in that ice cream shop, young people, adolescents, what example was given to the public? 25 years is very little. After four stabbings, he arrived dead at our hospital... a tragic Sunday where a teenager leaves his home and is delivered dead to that mother," he added.
Deylin Rosales stated that 30 years of imprisonment without a reduction of sentence would be fair for that murderer.
Among the more than 1,200 comments that the publication has gathered so far, hundreds of people have expressed their dismay over the new crime and are calling for severity in murder trials.
Several commentators pointed out that the individuals involved were under the influence of drugs and later did not even remember what had happened.
However, it has not been confirmed at this time whether those involved in the blood incident were arrested by the police.
"How long, Cuba, will you allow crime? Are we going to kill each other? To arrive home and be told that a son, a brother, a cousin, even a friend has been killed. How long do we have to allow for someone to be killed for trying to defend someone defenseless, for God's sake?" questioned the young man's cousin, Odalys Silva, in another post.
"How long do we have to witness a mother suffering because of a wretch? How long, my God? Cuba is no longer a safe place," added Silva, who on behalf of the family demanded justice so that the crime does not go unpunished.
On social media, there are several expressions of dismay and sadness from friends and acquaintances of the family, highlighting that the deceased young man was a good kid.
The truth is I have no words to express how I feel. Unfortunately, the death of a friend is one of the most painful and devastating experiences we can face in life. The feeling of emptiness and loss left by their absence is overwhelming, and the deep pain that settles in the heart seems to have no end. Every shared memory, every shared laugh, becomes a precious treasure that we cherish fondly, while we hold on to the hope that one day we will reunite again," wrote Camilo Pérez, one of the deceased young man's friends, in a heartfelt and beautiful post.
Sadness and melancholy invade us, reminding us of how fragile and ephemeral human existence can be. The departure of a friend leaves an impossible void to fill, and we face the difficult task of learning to live with the absence of their physical presence, but always present in our hearts. Rest in peace, Lachi," they added.
As of the closing of this report, there are no further details on the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate death of.
At the end of June, the Cuban government acknowledged a worrying increase in criminal violence on the island, including the use of firearms.
According to statements made by Colonel Eddy Sierra Arias, head of the General Directorate of the National Revolutionary Police, criminal activities are linked to a series of factors, including smuggling from abroad, drug trafficking, and the movement of national and foreign citizens that negatively impact the country's security.
He pointed out that, furthermore, there is a deterioration of some ethical values that contribute to the increase in criminal activity.
Furthermore, Sierra Arias emphasized the involvement of young people and minors in these criminal activities, highlighting that many of them are not engaged in studies or work, which further worsens the situation.
