Food with worms for pregnant women at Santiago de Cuba hospital.

The patients believe that the kitchen workers do it deliberately to take the food home with them.

A pregnant woman from Santiago de Cuba who is hospitalized at the Southern Mariana Grajales Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital, popularly known as Clínica Los Ángeles, reported that she was given food with worms.

The pregnant woman sent photos to the independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada of the Tuesday food tray: a little rice, ground beef, and a piece of sweet potato. Already an insufficient and poorly nutritious menu, but what is truly outrageous is that it also has bugs.

"I had to leave it right there, I couldn't keep eating," the young woman said.

In my case, I have my husband who can bring me food to reinforce, but tell me, what will those who live in the countryside do? Who will bring it to them?" she questioned.

In the shared image, the worm is clearly seen in the corner of the tray, after, fortunately, the patient noticed its presence.

According to the reporter Mayeta, the poor quality and lack of meat proteins in the diet of pregnant women in this hospital is not a surprising issue for the people of Santiago.

"Now they serve ground meat, and look what you find, it seems like they do it to take food for the pantry," the complainant pointed out.

Last April, another pregnant woman hospitalized in the institution described the food given to pregnant women there as "pig food."

"No one is digging into that," wrote the young woman, to whom her mother-in-law brought food daily.

In the published images, you could see a hard-fried egg, some watery peas, and something that appeared to be plantain fufu.

And so, there are women who have no other option and [must] eat this same thing because they live outside the municipality," lamented the pregnant woman.
