A Cuban reported the death of his brother in Cienfuegos as a result of alleged medical negligence and lack of attention at the Gustavo Aldereguía Lima hospital.

The man died in the early hours of July first, and his brother recounted the events on Facebook.

"At midnight, they just killed my brother at Gustavo Aldereguía Lima hospital due to lack of medical assistance," the man accused.

He also detailed that his family member had been admitted for pneumonia, and in the observation room they were left waiting for a long time, "without even giving him an antibiotic, they only gave him dextrose," he points out.

According to the complainant, he added that "he had to look for the doctors because the nurses on this shift didn't even attend to him, and it was only after much insistence on my part that a doctor came to see him and give him just one pill, two hours after he was admitted."

"Then we say that Cuba is a medical power," he pointed out, also mentioning that "of course, for those with connections, this medicine is good, or for the leaders of this country, there the medicine is good, let's share it all so they can see how life is lived in Cuba."

A recent complaint sparked a debate about the conditions at Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Hospital, which was described by an internet user as "a pigsty," sharing images of the unhygienic and unhealthy conditions of its facilities.

"It is not a landfill, but images of the same room where the dengue patients are, in Cienfuegos Hospital, with cockroaches included to enhance the horror," said the administrator of the Facebook group 'Molinos'.

In his publication, activist Yamil Cuéllar emphasized that the decline of the hospital center dates back to some time ago, and that even the institution's own doctors recommend to the patients' families that they be transferred to other institutions for their own good.

Other complaints about medical negligence in Cuban hospital facilities have been made to report the death of a four-year-old child in Santiago de Cuba.

"He had something come out of his nose that caused cellulitis. It seems like it spread and he caught a bacteria. They took him to the doctor because he was in a lot of pain, and you know how medical care is in Cuba, they didn't give him the right medication. They were just managing it with pills, and it wasn't what he needed," a relative recounted in an audio message to journalist Yosmany Mayeta.

Last April, a young mother exploded in indignation in the vicinity of the Tomás Romay polyclinic in Old Havana, due to the death of her six-month-old baby from respiratory arrest due to alleged medical negligence at that hospital.
